Azurite-malachite has been admired since ancient times. The ancient Greeks used it not only in jewelry but also ground it into powder as a pigment for painting. In fact, azurite pigment was used in artworks adorning the Parthenon, and an example of the stone in its raw form can be seen today in the Acropolis Museum in Athens.
